2016 BCRW Christmas Party & Luncheon

The Benton County Republican Women met at the Adair Clubhouse on Monday, December 12, 2016 for their annual Christmas Party. Jean Nelson, President, called the meeting to order at 12 Noon and Stella Guenther, BCRW member and Chaplain of the Oregon Federation of Republican Women, gave an invocation and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. A lovely buffet luncheon by Valley Catering, followed. After lunch, Jean praised the great successes Republicans enjoyed in the November 8, 2016 Elections. She reported, "Not since the 1920's have Republicans won such a decisive victory in a national election! Republicans now have 2 out of 3 governorships in the whole nation! In State legislatures, Republicans control 55.5% of all seats and Democrats control 42.8%. Our biggest win was electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States!" Jean then added, "Let's celebrate!" Just then, PJ Hunter announced that President-Elect Donald J. Trump, who is traveling the country on his Thank Your Tour, had arrived. Sporting his familiar red "Make America Great Again" cap, Mr. Trump spoke briefly, in his unique style, and gave credit to the Republican Women for their part in his H-U-U-U-G-E victory.

Regarding Oregon elections, Jean noted that electing Dennis Richardson to Secretary of State was quite an accomplishment for it has been 40 years since a Republican held that office. She announced that Mr. Richardson has invited all to his swearing-in ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on December 30th, in the Senate Chambers of the Oregon Capitol. Jean also offered congratulations to Sen. Brian Boquist, Rep. Andy Olson and Rep. Mike Nearman on their reelections to the Oregon State Legislature.

Felicia Ehlen, librarian and acting director of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, joined the BCRW for lunch and Jean presented five books to Ms. Ehlen from the club. The books were, Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg, Trust Betrayed by Scott Taylor, American Exceptionalism by Charles Murray and two hardbound copies of Adair Diary by long-time club member, Charline King.

Due to scheduling mixup, Jean Nelson presented Acupressure Facial and the Benefits of Massage, giving step-by-step directions on self-facial acupressure as members and guests followed along, pressing, tapping, rubbing and scratching their heads and faces (should have gotten pictures of this).

BCRW offers much thanks to Charline King for chairing this event,  to Linda Bartcher for the festive table decorations, and to Associate Member, John Detweiler, for playing Mr. Trump and for always being a good sport. Read More......

BCRW Oct. 2015 - Pat Dysart's Walk Across Australia

On Monday, October 26, 2015, Benton County Republican Women met at King Tin Restaurant in Corvallis for a no-host luncheon and general meeting. With a stunning slideshow, retired OSU researcher and BCRW member, Dr. Pat Dysart, detailed her 1988, six-month, science based walk across the Australian continent that landed her in the Guinness Book of World Records. Pat field-tested 40 consumer products and planted two million coolabah trees on the trek. Out of the camel train of 15, Sam and Chuluk were featured in Pat's presentation for their distinctly different personalities. The same is true for human personalities, as we learned. Some participants made the trek, or partial legs thereof, for different reasons, which led to some (humorous to us) conflicts. BCRW members and guests enjoyed this record-making travelogue tremendously. On Nov. 3, 2015, the Corvallis Gazette-Times featured Dr. Dysart's trip on the front-page as one of the paper's The Story Next Door series under the title The Long Walk. Read More......

2014 BCRW Summer Picnic

On July 21, 2015, Benton County Republican Women held their annual summer potluck picnic at the lovely home of Charline King in Adair Village, Oregon. Surrounded by hanging baskets spilling over with beautiful flowers, members and guests enjoyed a fabulous potluck luncheon on the patio. After a few announcements, the gathering was very 'social.' Later, the festivities moved inside for a game suggested by Pat Dysart. Participants were to anonymously submit a 'headline' describing a fun, unique, astounding, or memorable life experience for the group to guess "Who Did It?" The game was a real hit and we all discovered a little something special about each other. Our thanks to Charline for offering her home and patio for this event. Read More......

June 2014: Chana Cox speaks on 'Common Core' at BCRW General Meeting

On Monday, June 23rd, Chana Cox spoke at the General Meeting of the Benton County Republican Women at King Tin Restaurant in Corvallis, Oregon. A Senor Lecturer Emerita from Lewis and Clark College, Ms. Cox is well qualified to speak on Common Core and how it is affecting the education of our children and grandchildren. Chana taught at Lewis and Clark for over twenty years after receiving her Ph.D. in philosophy from Columbia University. She taught courses in the departments of philosophy, history, political science, the business department, and the freshman core. She is the author of several books and other writings, including a book on the history of classical liberalism, Liberty, God’s Gift to Humanity. She is currently a member of the board of U Choose and is director of its Speakers Bureau and Writers Club.

2014 BCRW April Meeting

On Monday, April 28, 2014, the Benton County Republican Women held their April meeting at King Tin Restaurant in Corvallis. Speakers were Cynthia Kendoll and Jerry J. Jackson, Sr.

Cynthia Kendoll is president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform and the authorized agent for the petition that put “Protect Oregon Driver Licenses” on the November 2014 ballot. She told the group that she had never spearheaded a ballot initiative before and she credited leaders from around the state and many volunteers for their help. She described the process and talked about her experiences throughout the successful effort. Jerry Jackson is the Republican candidate for Benton County Commissioner. He gleaned leadership experience serving on the Philomath City Council becoming the body's chair. He also served as the city's chief financial officer and Philomath is a model for fiscal responsibility. Benton County would be well served if voters elect Mr. Jackson for County Commissioner in November. Read More......

Every February since 2010, the Benton County Republican Women have submitted a poster with display materials for Presidents' Day for exhibition on the main floor of the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. The 2014 presentation features quotes by Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as well as selections of interesting historical facts (see PDF showing selected text for 2014). We hope you'll visit the library and view our presentation, which will be on display February 1-15. 2013 BCRW Christmas Party

The Benton County Republican Women held their 2013 Potluck Christmas Party on December 16th in the Fireside Room at Kings Circle Assembly of God Church in Corvallis. The food was fabulous, the Christmas music by Dan Vickers, Pastor of Cowboy Church, was beautiful and the party stood as a wonderful wrap-up for the year. Our special guests and speakers were Oregon Federation of Republican Women (OFRW) President Sally MacLeod and  Treasurer Eleanor Boese. Charlotte Vicker presented the book The Founding Conservatives: How a Group of Unsung Heroes Saved the American Revolution to Corvallis-Benton County Public Library Director Carolyn Rawles-Heiser. The installation of BCRW's 2014-2015 Officers was presided over by Eleanor Boese as outgoing BCRW President Carolyn Webb thanked her officers and board and the torch was passed to new president Stella Guenther, 1st Vice President Patricia Dysart, 2nd Vice President Jean Nelson, Recording Secretary Susan Newby, Corresponding Secretary Vonnie Noble and Treasurer Kim Rowe. President MacLeod shared uplifting words for the future focusing on education and political education. Following the potluck luncheon, a gift exchange was enjoyed by those participating. 2013 Constitution Day Library Display

The Benton County Republican Women have presented a Constitution Day display at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library since 2009.  The 2013 presentation appeals to young citizens to study the U.S. Constitution; to know it, and to protect it.  The display runs September 3-15.

The 2009 Benton County Republican Barbecue was held on August 20th in the Beer Gardens at the Philomath Frolic Rodeo Grounds in Philomath, Oregon. Linn County Republicans joined us for the evening. A social gathering began at 5 p.m. with dinner starting at 6 p.m. Sandy McHenry and his volunteer crew fired up the barbecue and bean pot early in the day for a fabulous Tri-tip beef and chicken dinner. Lynda McHenry filled out the menu with her crew of Republican volunteers. Bob Tiernan, Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party was the main speaker. Also speaking were candidates Sid Leiken and Jaynee Garmond, running for Congress (Dist. 4) and Jerry J. Jackson, Sr., running for Benton County Commissioner, Position 1. (More details coming). The Benton County Republicans and Benton County Republican Women participated in the Benton County Fair, which ran from July 29th through August 1st. We offer our appreciation to our Republican volunteers for manning the booths and to our Republican legislators and candidates for their appearances in the booths. This year we conducted the World's Smallest Political Quiz which drew interest and some surprises.

The Benton County Republicans had a great location for two booths this year to promote both the local party and our Republican candidates for the 2008 election. The Fair ran from July 29th through August 2nd. Friday was BCRW's day to man the booth, though we thank our PCP's, Volunteers and Republican Women for covering the booths throughout the Fair. The Benton County Republicans cheered on Republican candidates and encouraged voters to vote "Republican" from their float entry in the Philomath Frolic Parade on July 12, 2008 in Philomath, Oregon. The Benton GOP played a supporting role for Representative Andy Olson, who walked the parade route passing out candy. Bob and Linda Bartcher were so kind to pull the float. Reece Hrizuk and Graham Hay walked with Rep. Olson. Riders were Birdie Reetz, John Detweiler, Shirley Douglas, Sandra Hickey, Dale Clark (President of Operation Homefront Oregon), PJ Hunter, Stella Guenther and her grandsons, Jace, Derrick and Ryan. Decorators were Stella Guenther, Sandra Hickey, Linda Bartcher and PJ Hunter.

The Benton County Republican Central Committee put on its annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast and Yard Sale for 2008 in the parking lot at Republican Headquarters. This popular event is a fundraiser for the Benton GOP and it is lots of fun and a great way to start Independence Day! Our thanks to Gene Klingler, who chaired the event, to all who helped Gene make this celebration a wonderful success, and a special thanks to all our guests.

Congratulations to Joan Wood, winner of the "Patriotic Quilt Drawing," offered by the BCRW as a fundraiser! The quilt was handcrafted under the direction of accomplished quiter, Dr. Juanita Lamley.
