2017 - BCRW helps with Benton GOP Float in July 8th Philomath Main Street Parade

Benton County Republican Women participated in the Philomath parade with Benton County Republicans on July 8th, 2017. There was excitement in the air as everyone pitched in to help decorate the float. The turnout was terrific and the weather was absolutely perfect for a parade. Enthusiastic flag wavers and sign holders called out, "We love America," chanted "USA, USA, USA," and left the words "Liberty" and "Freedom" wafting in the wind. With places like North Korea and Venezuela in the news lately as reminders that freedoms of the people can be lost to dictatorial power, the float was decorated with some of America's first principles, which must always be protected.
We offer a huge thank you to these fantastic Republicans for their participation: Nic & Louanna Oliver (drivers), Jessica Paulsen, Trinity Paulsen (age 4) and JR, Jeff Limón, John Detweiler, Stella Guenther, Jean & Charles Nelson, Kristie Hernandez, Izzy Hernandez and friend Layell (great helpers/passed out candy), Jerry & Arden Ray, and Garland & PJ Hunter. Benton County Republican Women celebrated Independence Day with Benton County Republicans by participating in the Corvallis All-American Anyone Can Join, Fabulous, Fantastic Fourth of July Parade followed by a fun BBQ & Potluck at the Troop 3 Scout Cabin. Kristie Hernandez organized the BBQ. Due to camera failure, there is little coverage of these events, for which PJ apologizes. If anyone has pictures, please let me know. Thank you.

The Benton County Republican Women helped decorate the Benton County Republican's "Liberty' float in the Corvallis All-American Anyone-Can-Join, Fabulous, Fantastic 4th of July Parade. Pulling the float were Nic and Louanna Oliver in their handsome truck decorated with USA flags. Kim Rowe came early to help decorate but couldn't stay to ride the float. Showing enthusiasm for this special American holiday were Jean & Charles Nelson, Stella Guenther, John Detweiler, Garland & PJ Hunter with grandson Ty Sisson and Zumi the Republican Labrador. Benton GOP Chair, Jerry Jackson, walked with the float and passed out candy to children. Riders wished all a "Happy 4th of July" and called out "Happy Birthday, America!" Read More......

Salem, OR (Feb. 4) – At the 2013 Biennial Organization Meeting on Saturday, members of the Oregon Republican State Central Committee elected Suzanne Gallagher of Tigard, Oregon as the new Chair of the ORP. Gallagher’s slate swept the other three officer positions as well. “Our slate of officers won these contested elections because the Central Committee wanted a team of officers which shared the same Constitutional values, worked together effectively and would turn our Party’s focus to attracting voters to the Party’s candidates,” Chair Gallagher said. Bill Currier, the new ORP Vice Chair and Chris Barreto, the new ORP Secretary, both won contested races for their offices. Ken Taylor, the new ORP Treasurer won by acclamation. On Thursday, Feb. 23rd, eight BCRW members and an associate member turned out for a Tea Party sponsored by Benton AFP in front of the courthouse. They rallied in support of churches facing negative building code changes and landowners facing the addition of unneeded rules and regulations that nearly amount to 'takings' on riparian and wetland areas that the Benton County Board of Commissioners will be considering. In addition, the tea partiers protested wasteful use of funds regarding the purchase and remodeling of county owned properties and a recent 'heartless' ruling by Commissioners Linda Modrell and Annabelle Jaramillo, denying Charles Fischer his 5-year appeal to build six homes on his 30-acre property on which he can no longer farm due to complaints by neighbors, whose properties have already been divided. Republicans Betsy Close and Jerry Jackson, primary candidates for two commission seats, attended the rally.

The Benton County Veterans Memorial Committee and the community of Benton County sponsored a candlelight remembrance and memorial program honoring the fallen and the families of those who lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy. The September 11, 2010 program started at 7:00 PM with Les Whittle as Emcee. Candle GLOW STICKS were furnished for a lovely candlelight effect. Local police and fire fighters remembered their fellow first responders, many of whom sacrificed their lives or health to save others on September 11, 2001 and beyond during the long recovery process at ground zero. The program was held in front of the Benton County Veterans Memorial at 1100 NW Kings Blvd. in Corvallis, Oregon. Read More......

The Benton County Republicans and Benton County Republican Women participated in the Benton County Fair, which ran from July 29th through August 1st. We offer our appreciation to our Republican volunteers for manning the booths and to our Republican legislators and candidates for their appearances in the booths. This year we conducted the World's Smallest Political Quiz which drew interest and some surprises.

The annual Summer Potluck Picnic and Membership Drive of the Benton County Republican Women was held at Janet Paine's beautiful home on Monday, July 27, 2009. Janet is such a fine hostess and makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The view is an incredible series of Christmas Trees of various growth stages spilling over rolling hills. First Vice President, Hawthorne O'Rourke stood in for President Lou Copes who was out of state. Christine Strawn, Vice President of the Oregon Chapter of Operation Homefront, was the guest speaker. Christine explained that the recent deployment of National Guard Troops to Iraq was the largest deployment in Oregon's history and so Operation Homefront is committed to assisting a huge number of families of the deployed and she explained the many ways in which BCRW members can help.

This second AFP Tea Party held in Corvallis, Oregon in front of the Benton County Courthouse was one of thousands of Tea Parties held across the USA to let our elected leaders know that "We the People" are fed up with government spending and our eroding freedoms.

The Oregon Chapter of Operation Homefront sponsored the 2009 Armed Forces Day Tribute and Flag Rally at 11:00 a.m. in front of the National Guard Armory, 1100 NW Kings Blvd. in Corvallis, Oregon. The Benton County Republican Women provided finger food and beverages. The rally was non-partisan and open to all who wished to participate in honoring the wonderful men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Read More......

This year the Benton County Republican Women helped with the 2009 celebration of President Abraham Lincoln's 200th Birthday and Oregon's 150th Anniversary of Statehood. A dinner and benefit auction was held on March 14th by the Linn and Benton County Republicans at Teen Challenge in Shedd, Oregon. U.S. Representative Greg Walden was the main speaker, State Representative Andy Olson served as Master of Ceremonies and Reece Hrizuk was the auctioneer. On Saturday, June 21, 2008 the Oregon Federation of Republican Women held their District IV Director's Meeting at the Eola Inn Restaurant which is nestled on the bank of the Willamette River at what is known as Eola Bend. Vi MacDonald, District IV Director, conducted the meeting with OFRW President, Joyce Waggoner present. Andrew Over, Executive Director of the Oregon Republican Party was the main speaker. Mason Harrison, Oregon Campaign Chair for Sen. John McCain, also spoke briefly saying that Oregon is "in play," and we will see a very active and committed McCain campaign. 2007 Operation Christmas Hope

TriWest Healthcare Alliance presented "Operation Christmas Hope", a benefit dinner & concert for the Oregon Chapter of Operation Homefront as they prepare to serve local families of deployed soldiers during the holiday season. The benefit was held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at the historic Venetian Theater, in downtown Albany. A fabulous dinner was catered by Novak's Hungarian Paprikas, and The Lost Dogs, an Alt Americana band based out of Southern California and Nashville, provided the evening's entertainment, which included original hits, Christmas songs, sing-a-longs and a comical radio show complete with 'really bad' English accents (according to the Lost Dogs)! If you missed this event... don't be too hard on yourself... we suspect you'll get another chance next year. We base our suspicion on the success of this event and the terrific time that was had by all. It was an evening to remember! The Benton County Republican women have supported Operation Homefront/Oregon since its establishment earlier this year. Read More......
