Benton County Republican Women and Benton County Republicans were neighbors at the Benton County Fair, which ran August 2-5, 2017. The BCRW booth again featured the U.S. History Game, which attracted young people from elementary school to young adults as they tested their knowledge on the Founders, Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government, true or false questions and so forth winning a piece of candy or a patriotic sticker for correct answers. Volunteers working in the booth had a wonderful opportunity to talk to women about membership in the BCRW, sell patriotic buttons and offer ice-cold water to fair goers during a heatwave that hit the area at fair time. The Benton County Republican Women and the Benton County Republican Central Committee had booths next to each other with the BCRW giving away candy for correct answers to U.S. History questions determined by a spin of the wheel, while next door, the BCRCC promoted Donald Trump for President and the Republican candidates running for national, state and local offices. 2014: Benton GOP at Philomath Frolic Parade and Booth

The Benton County Republican Women assisted the Benton County Republican Party with their booth and in the Philomath Frolic Grand Parade in a float designed to support our statewide and local Republican candidates running in the 2014 election. With flags waving and shouting, "Liberty" riders enthusiastically hoisted giant letters spelling "LIBERTY" to parade watchers, who showed their approval with applause! Jacob Vandever, candidate for Oregon House, Dist. 16, and Jerry Jackson, candidate for Benton County Commissioner walked with the float passing out candy to youngsters and greeting voters. Sen. Betsy Close, candidate for Oregon Senate, also participated in the parade riding in a beautiful white Corvette with her fabulous campaign team afoot (we borrowed her photos from Facebook). Louanna Oliver pulled the float… and expertly, we might add. On board were Kristie Hernandez, daughters Ronnie and Alexia with friend Erick, John Detweiler, Stella Guenther and PJ Hunter with Zumi (the dog). 2013 Republican "We the People" Appreciation Dinner

Many members of the Benton County Republican Women attended the Benton County Republican's annual "We the People" Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Clubhouse in Adair Village with a wonderful buffet dinner by Valley Catering. Joining the guest list were members of the Oregon State University College Republicans and special guest speakers, Bill Currier, Oregon Republican Party Vice-Chair; W. Scott Jorgensen, author of Reflection and Deputy Communications Director for the Oregon House Republican Office; and District 8 State Senator Betsy Close. Mark Callahan, Republican primary candidate for U.S. Senate also attended the dinner. Following a fun social hour and delicious dinner, Jerry Jackson, Chair of the Benton County Republicans, turned the evening program over to 1st Vice Chair Stan Baker, an inspiring speaker in his own right, to introduce the speakers. 2013 Republican Booths at the Benton County Fair

We're having a blast at the Fair! The Benton County Republicans and Benton County Republican Women have side-by-side booths at the 2013 Benton County Fair, July 31st through Aug. 3rd! The Benton County Republicans are selling raffle tickets for an AR-15. Tickets are $5 each and the drawing will be held on Nov. 21, 2013 at the organization's "We the People" Appreciation Dinner (need not be present to win). Featured again this year in the booth is the "World's Smallest Political Quiz," a fun way to find out where you stand in the political spectrum. John Detweiler, who manages and analyzes the results claims that Benton County has a libertarian streak... will that be evident this year? The Benton County Republican Women are selling fun patriotic and political buttons and patriotic jewelry. Drop by the booths for ice-cold spring water and take part in the activity.

2012 Republican Barbecue

The Benton County Republicans held their annual Republican Barbecue on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Les Wheeler's beautiful farm on Kiger Island in Corvallis, Oregon. Sandy McHenry and volunteers spent the day grilling Tri-tip beef and chicken for a wonderful dinner entrée. Republican candidates for the 2012 General Election took the opportunity to talk with attendees in a casual setting and later spoke as the sun began drop in the western sky (apologies for the horrible photos). The singing group Silver Bells entertained and Chairman, John Bell, served as Master of Ceremonies. Our speakers were Betsy Close, candidate for Benton County Commissioner (Position 3), Jerry J. Jackson, Sr., running for Benton County Commissioner (Position 1), Andy Olson, for reelection as State Representative (District 15), Andrew Decker for State Representative (District 16), Jim Thompson for reelection as State Representative (District 23), Dr. Knute Buehler for Secretary of State, the fiery James Buchal for Oregon's Attorney General, and Art Robinson for U.S. Congressional District Four.  We thank our speakers and all who attended this event and offer a special thank you to Les Wheeler for his hospitality and to the Benton County Republican Women for their assistance.


Addendum: In September, Republican Central Committee members in Senate District 8 voted to recommend Betsy Close and two others to the County Commissions in SD-8 to serve the remainder of retiring State Senator Frank Morse's term of office. In October, the Linn and Benton County Commissioners voted to appoint Close to the seat. We welcome Sen. Betsy Close as our new state senator. Read More......

Feb. 2012: BCRW members attend Tea Party Rally

On Thursday, Feb. 23rd, eight BCRW members and an associate member turned out for a Tea Party sponsored by Benton AFP in front of the courthouse. They rallied in support of churches facing negative building code changes and landowners facing the addition of unneeded rules and regulations that nearly amount to 'takings' on riparian and wetland areas that the Benton County Board of Commissioners will be considering. In addition, the tea partiers protested wasteful use of funds regarding the purchase and remodeling of county owned properties and a recent 'heartless' ruling by Commissioners Linda Modrell and Annabelle Jaramillo, denying Charles Fischer his 5-year appeal to build six homes on his 30-acre property on which he can no longer farm due to complaints by neighbors, whose properties have already been divided. Republicans Betsy Close and Jerry Jackson, primary candidates for two commission seats, attended the rally.

9/11 Candlelight Remembrance, 2010

The Benton County Veterans Memorial Committee and the community of Benton County sponsored a candlelight remembrance and memorial program honoring the fallen and the families of those who lost their lives in the 9-11 tragedy. The September 11, 2010 program started at 7:00 PM with Les Whittle as Emcee. Candle GLOW STICKS were furnished for a lovely candlelight effect. Local police and fire fighters remembered their fellow first responders, many of whom sacrificed their lives or health to save others on September 11, 2001 and beyond during the long recovery process at ground zero. The 2009 Benton County Republican Barbecue was held on August 20th in the Beer Gardens at the Philomath Frolic Rodeo Grounds in Philomath, Oregon. Linn County Republicans joined us for the evening. A social gathering began at 5 p.m. with dinner starting at 6 p.m. Sandy McHenry and his volunteer crew fired up the barbecue and bean pot early in the day for a fabulous Tri-tip beef and chicken dinner. Lynda McHenry filled out the menu with her crew of Republican volunteers. Bob Tiernan, Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party was the main speaker. Also speaking were candidates Sid Leiken and Jaynee Garmond, running for Congress (Dist. 4) and Jerry J. Jackson, Sr., running for Benton County Commissioner, Position 1. (More details coming). We offer our appreciation to our Republican volunteers for manning the booths and to our Republican legislators and candidates for their appearances in the booths. This year we conducted the World's Smallest Political Quiz which drew interest and some surprises.

The annual Summer Potluck Picnic and Membership Drive of the Benton County Republican Women was held at Janet Paine's beautiful home on Monday, July 27, 2009. Janet is such a fine hostess and makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The view is an incredible series of Christmas Trees of various growth stages spilling over rolling hills. First Vice President, Hawthorne O'Rourke stood in for President Lou Copes who was out of state. Christine Strawn, Vice President of the Oregon Chapter of Operation Homefront, was the guest speaker. Christine explained that the recent deployment of National Guard Troops to Iraq was the largest deployment in Oregon's history and so Operation Homefront is committed to assisting a huge number of families of the deployed and she explained the many ways in which BCRW members can help.

The Benton County Republicans participated in the Philomath Frolic Parade on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Sid Leiken, Mayor of Springfield and 2010 candidate for U.S. Congress for Oregon District 4 and Andy Olson, Incumbent Oregon State Representative for District 15 and 2010 candidate, walked the parade route passing out candy and balloons with the help of Mayor Leiken's campaign assistant, Jenn Thompson and Linda Bartcher. Bob Bartcher expertly pulled the float again this year. We were pleased that John Bussell, race car driver representing Operation Homefront, and his son Gary joined us for the parade as well as Laurie Rentz as the Statue of Liberty. Others riding the float were Lee McLaughlin and his daughter Hailee, John Detweiler, Stella Guenther, Sandra Hickey and PJ Hunter. This second AFP Tea Party held in Corvallis, Oregon in front of the Benton County Courthouse was one of thousands of Tea Parties held across the USA to let our elected leaders know that "We the People" are fed up with government spending and our eroding freedoms.

The 2009 Benton County Republicans' annual 4th of July Pancake Breakfast was held in the parking lot at the NEW Republican Headquarters, 1760 SW 3rd St., in Corvallis, Oregon. The Benton County Republicans cheered on Republican candidates and encouraged voters to vote "Republican" from their float entry in the Philomath Frolic Parade on July 12, 2008 in Philomath, Oregon. The Benton GOP played a supporting role for Representative Andy Olson, who walked the parade route passing out candy. Bob and Linda Bartcher were so kind to pull the float. Reece Hrizuk and Graham Hay walked with Rep. Olson. Riders were Birdie Reetz, John Detweiler, Shirley Douglas, Sandra Hickey, Dale Clark (President of Operation Homefront Oregon), PJ Hunter, Stella Guenther and her grandsons, Jace, Derrick and Ryan. Decorators were Stella Guenther, Sandra Hickey, Linda Bartcher and PJ Hunter.
